North End Happenings & Updates

Changes are happening in the North End! We thought we would share updates on the questions we receive about the developments we're seeing in our neighborhood.

1. Camel’s Back Park Mixed-Use Project (1920 N. 13th Street):

   Directly across from Camel’s Back Park, construction is underway on a two-story mixed-use building that will include a neighborhood café, small retail space, and four residential units. This project reflects Boise’s updated zoning approach, adding walkable amenities while remaining neighborhood-scaled.

2. Lemp Street Café Across from Washington Elementary:

   On Lemp Street, a former residence across from Washington Elementary is being transformed into a small neighborhood café and gathering spot. Designed with the historic character of the North End in mind, the space is intended to serve families, neighbors, and those heading to nearby parks and trails.

3. 8th & Franklin Condo Development:

   Plans are moving forward for a new condominium building at 8th and Franklin, adding additional housing options in a central, walkable location. This project continues to spark thoughtful neighborhood conversation around growth, design, and livability.

4. Simplot Hill Becoming a Public Park:

   Set just above the North End, Simplot Hill is planned to become a public park in the coming years. Once complete, it will add open space, trails, and panoramic views overlooking the neighborhood — a meaningful long-term investment in public land and outdoor access.

5. Reduced Speed Limits in the North End:

A new pilot program is introducing reduced 20-mph speed limits on several North End streets, aimed at calming traffic and improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
