Idaho Ranks #1 for Lowest Property Crime Rate in the Nation: More Reasons to Love Living in Boise
It's no secret that we love Boise. What we do and who we are is rooted in a desire to help people find a home here, make a life here, and experience the dream lifestyle that Idaho has to offer.
One of our foundational values as a company is to create bigger lives for all, not simply through buying and selling real estate, but also by opening doors to Idaho's incredible opportunities, communities, economy, & beauty.
While we sometimes wish we could keep this little pocket of the country a secret from the rest of the world, we're also incredibly proud to call Idaho home as our state continues to earn national recognition.
Idaho Has the Lowest Property Crime Rate in the Nation
According to FBI crime statistics released in August 2026, Idaho recorded the lowest property crime rate in the nation in 2025, with a rate approximately 61% below the national figure.
The report examined property crimes, including burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. Idaho recorded an estimated 605 property crimes per 100,000 residents, compared with the national rate of 1,534.8.
To put those numbers into perspective, Idaho's property crime rate was substantially lower than that of every other state, including its neighbors throughout the Mountain West. The next lowest state nationally was New Hampshire, with a rate of 818.1 per 100,000 residents.
Idaho's capital city earned an impressive distinction of its own as well.
Boise recorded the lowest property crime rate among the nation's state capitals in the FBI's 2025 reporting. Boise recorded 824.1 property crimes per 100,000 residents, significantly below the median of 2,454. That represents a rate approximately 66% lower than the median.
Even compared with other capital cities known for their outdoor recreation, strong communities, and desirable lifestyles, Boise's numbers stand apart.
For perspective, the reported property crime rates for several other Western state capitals were:
Boise, Idaho: 824.1
Phoenix, Arizona: 2,029.7
Salem, Oregon: 2,315.3
Olympia, Washington: 2,560.3
These statistics are particularly impressive when considering the remarkable growth and transformation Boise has experienced over the years. As more people have discovered the Treasure Valley, the city has continued to evolve with new businesses, neighborhoods, cultural attractions, and opportunities.

More Than Safety: Idaho Ranks #1 as the Best State to Live In
In August 2026, WalletHub named Idaho the #1 Best State to Live In, evaluating all 50 states across 51 indicators of livability. The analysis considered affordability, economic conditions, education, healthcare, quality of life, and safety.
Idaho also earned the #3 ranking for safety and #7 for its economy within the same study.
The report highlighted several of Idaho's economic and lifestyle advantages, including comparatively low property taxes, strong household income growth, high homeownership rates, and relatively short commute times.

A Growing Economy & New Opportunities
For most of us, choosing where to live involves more than finding the right home. Career opportunities, economic stability, and the ability to establish long-term roots are equally important.
According to the Idaho Department of Labor's 2025 Year in Review, Idaho tied for #7 nationally in job growth between August 2024 and August 2025, adding approximately 12,900 jobs during that period. Growth was especially notable in the leisure, hospitality, and construction industries.
Boise received additional recognition from ConsumerAffairs, which ranked the city #2 nationally for economic stability & opportunity in its 2026 study of the best places for a fresh start.
The study considered employment conditions, income growth, job growth, and the diversity of the local job market. Boise also ranked #2 overall among the 100 cities evaluated for those seeking a fresh start.
For those relocating to Idaho or establishing careers here, a healthy local economy can make a meaningful difference. And for those who have called the Treasure Valley home for decades, economic growth brings new opportunities, services, and businesses to the communities we already love.
