Boise is once again in the national spotlight for growth and opportunity. Earlier this summer, LinkedIn released its first-ever Cities on the Rise list, placing Boise second among all U.S. metros for job creation and talent attraction. The report highlighted the Treasure Valley’s booming tech, health care, and manufacturing sectors, pointing to Micron’s $15 billion fabrication facility, major recruitment by St. Luke’s, and Boise State University’s continued expansion.

Idaho’s employment data backs up the recognition. As of July 2025, the state’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.7%, with 16,500 new nonfarm jobs added year-over-year (+1.9%). The Boise City–Nampa metro outpaced the state average with a 3.3% employment gain, bringing total jobs to 418,600. Key growth industries include professional and business services (+5.0%), financial activities (+6.1%), leisure and hospitality (+4.7%), and manufacturing (+3.2%).

Population growth has also been a factor, with Idaho up 8.2% since the pandemic. Many newcomers are professionals drawn by career opportunities, a growing economy, and Boise’s lifestyle appeal. From riverfront trails to foothill hiking just minutes from downtown, the Treasure Valley offers the unique combination of outdoor recreation and a thriving urban core.

We also recognize that growth can be a touchy subject, especially for locals and longtime residents who treasure Boise’s small-city feel, friendly neighborhoods, and open spaces. While these changes bring opportunity, they can also create concerns about affordability, congestion, and preserving the character of the community we love. We share that sentiment. Growth is exciting, but it is also deeply personal—and we remain proud that Boise continues to embrace a vision of responsible growth that prioritizes schools, community, convenience, and quality of life.

This ranking is a positive reflection of our city’s momentum, and we’re proud to live in a place that balances economic progress with a steadfast commitment to preserving the outdoors and thoughtfully expanding recreation opportunities. Boise’s charm, safety, and spirit of community remain at the heart of its success, making it a truly special place to live, work, and thrive.
