An Authentic Mid-Century Marvel

An authentic Mid-Century marvel, completed in 1957 as renowned architect H Curtis Finch’s personal residence. Preserved like a time capsule, this iconic masterpiece is an artefact from the Case Study movement and a reflection of the arrival of the Modern era. A true MCM residence, the design expresses the era’s most enduring values: “order, cohesiveness, and simplicity, with pleasant surprise and knowing playfulness,” as best summarized within Arts and Architecture.
Showcasing exposed wood ceilings, solid timbers set on edge, clean, crisp lines and sturdy roofing system, remarkable walls of glass, and an abiding connection to the surrounding land. The home honors the legacy of architects like Eames and Stahl, where form and function meet reverence for craftsmanship and place.
Behind a slatted wood privacy fence and native wildflower garden, the home exudes an unassuming glamour. Step into a slate stone entryway, and find a world of warmth, material integrity, and timeless design. Remarkably well-preserved, looking almost exactly as it did when the home was built, with the kind of open plan that Mid-Century architecture made iconic: as comfortable for day-to-day home life as for frequent and festive entertaining.
To one side, a spacious living room with a pier-style fireplace wall, true to the era’s spirit. Floor-to-ceiling glass opens the room to a shaded deck and mature gardens, seamlessly dissolving the boundary between indoors and out. Across the entry, the formal dining room mirrors this gesture, with another wall of glass that opens to an additional terrace. Every space orients toward the outdoors—a hallmark of Mid-Century influence.
The yard itself is a study in elegant simplicity, where native landscaping blends texture and form. Not just inspired by, but derived from, original MCM design, the outdoor spaces invite you to serve a meal or host cocktail hour, while every effort has been made to incorporate the surroundings within the home’s interior experience.
The original kitchen remains stunningly untouched, showcasing sleek wood cabinetry and garden views from the casual dining nook. The main floor includes three bedrooms and two full bathrooms, each with generous windows that capture vignettes of landscape and light. Original wallpaper accent walls lend each bedroom a burst of playful color and Mid-Century personality. On the lower level, a den/bonus room offers the perfect retreat for a cozy TV lounge or playroom, alongside a private guest bedroom. Tucked into a quaint and quiet street in Boise’s coveted Highlands neighborhood.
