Western Idaho Fair & Caldwell Night Rodeo bring the fun, tradition, and country charm to summer in the Treasure Valley

You might live in Boise for the vibrant restaurant scene, the outdoor adventure access, and the endless city amenities, but that doesn’t mean you can’t throw on some cowboy boots and celebrate Idaho’s agricultural history and legacy. Much of the Treasure Valley was built on farmland, and at its heart, this region still carries a deep connection to the land, livestock, and the kind of lifestyle that values hard work, wide open spaces, and community.

August is when Idaho tips its hat to those western roots, with two of the year’s most anticipated events: the Western Idaho Fair and the Caldwell Night Rodeo. Whether you're a born-and-raised local or a recent arrival, both events are a great reminder of the culture and traditions that shaped this valley… and they’re also a whole lot of fun.

Western Idaho Fair

📍 Expo Idaho, Garden City

📅 August 15–24

The Western Idaho Fair has been a summertime tradition for over a century, and it never disappoints. From classic carnival rides to deep-fried everything, it’s a true fair experience, but with plenty of uniquely Idaho flair.

Some of this year’s highlights:

  1. Canines in the Clouds – world-champion stunt dogs

  2. Live music – including big names like Daughtry, Jake Owen, and The All-American Rejects

  3. Rodeo events, 4-H showcases, and animal exhibits

  4. Cooking and canning classes for the homestead-curious

  5. Food booths galore, local brews, and evening concerts under the stars

Caldwell Night Rodeo

📍 Caldwell Rodeo Grounds

📅 August 13–17

One of the top 20 professional rodeos in the country, the Caldwell Night Rodeo is pure Idaho energy. With five nights of rodeo action under the lights, it draws crowds from all over the West, and locals show up in full western style.

Expect:

  1. PRCA pro events: bull riding, barrel racing, bronc busting & more

  2. The iconic "Rowdies vs. Civies" seating sections (cowboy hats encouraged)

  3. A truly electric atmosphere, whether you’re a rodeo regular or first-timer

  4. Food, music, community, and a chance to experience Idaho’s western heritage in full swing
