Get Outside & Stop for a Treat – Our Favorite Coffee Shops & Bakeries
There’s no better way to step into spring than by getting outside to hit the trails, ride the greenbelt, or walk through the neighborhood for a breath of fresh, flowery air! With the sun rising earlier in the day and the weather warming just enough to ditch the winter coats, there are many of us Boiseans who want to spend more and more time outdoors.
It’s the perfect season for movement, connection, and exploring this beautiful city we call home… and what better way to do all three than a morning walk to coffee with a friend or a mid-ride stop for fuel at a local bakery? Even little ones are more likely to go a few extra blocks (or miles!) if there’s a treat involved.
This spring, we’re looking forward to the opportunity to connect over coffee or delight in something sweet after a good sweat session! With that in mind, we put together a list of our favorite stops around the Treasure Valley – each with its own aesthetic, personality, and tasty offerings.
A favorite for both coffee and breakfast. Known for things like their sourdough cinnamon rolls and breakfast sandwiches on house-made bread. Insider tip: order ahead—lines can get long at this Hyde Park Hotspot.
A true neighborhood gathering place with a comfortable, lived-in feel. Solid coffee, simple food, and plenty of space to meet up or linger a bit longer than planned. Their mission is to “encourage connection and community vitality within our neighborhood by serving stellar coffee, wholesome food, and libations within a vibrant and welcoming space.”
French-inspired pastries that feel a step above, beautifully executed and a little more refined, like you're celebrating a special occasion every time you take a bite. Favorites include their almond croissant and seasonal fruit tarts. As all the locals know, they do sell out, so plan to get there early!
A longtime local favorite with a European feel, this family-run bakery started in Sicily over 50 years ago. Known for strong espresso and classic pastries like cannoli and tiramisu, this grab-&-go spot is a true gem!
One of the most consistent coffee programs in town. They roast in-house and rotate beans regularly, so there’s always something new to try. The Garden City location is an easy add-on to a Greenbelt ride. The patio encourages good conversation… and possibly a second cup.
Part café, part neighborhood hub. Grab coffee in the morning and pick up a bottle of wine for dinner. Known for simple, well-done breakfast options and a steady stream of regulars, perfect after a walk through the tree-lined neighborhood or a weekday meetup after school drop-off.
A natural stop if you’re coming off the foothills or the river, this spot is located just a few blocks from Quinn’s Pond & Whitewater Park. Their baristas take coffee seriously, so expect well-balanced espresso drinks and a solid seasonal menu.
Family-owned and community-driven, reviews often mention how friendly and engaging the staff and baristas are, from knowing regulars’ names to remembering their favorite drinks. Add a pastry to your order and we promise you won’t be disappointed.
Sunshine & Spice Bakery & Café
Featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, this nationally recognized spot is serving up delicious pastries, Turkish coffee and savory selections that earned them James Beard recognition. Owned by five sisters, all of whom came here as refugees from Afghanistan, the incredible food comes with a heart-warming story.
A few other Treasure Valley spots with rave reviews:
From the website: “Enjoy the freshest coffee, crafted from beans that go from farm to cup in just 45 days. Explore our premium teas sourced from around the world, all in a warm, inviting space designed to inspire connection.”
“This local Boise coffee shop brings a fresh vibrance to the community. Filled to the brim with plant life, Caffeina customers are sure to feel nestled into nature as they enjoy our certified organic, small-batch, freshly roasted coffee.”
“Whether you're a longtime fan or a first-time visitor, a visit to Flourish Bakery promises an unforgettable experience where passion meets pastry. Come taste the difference that craftsmanship and heart make in every bite.”
Best known for artisan bread—especially their baguettes and sourdough. Also offers sandwiches and simple pastries. A good stop if you want to bring something home with you.
More modern and a little unexpected. High-end pastries during the day, pizza at night. Their laminated dough work stands out, and flavors tend to be more creative than traditional.
A reliable neighborhood spot with a full pastry case and classic coffee drinks. From breakfast burritos and sandwiches to homemade breads, cookies, and cinnamon rolls.
Known for fun, flavored drinks and a more playful menu. “Where we make delicious specialty coffee with all homemade sauces and syrups and our version of a French Twist – a French pastry, similar to a croissant, but bigger and filled with cinnamon, almond, ham and cheese, or anything that’s in season or just tastes good.”
An aesthetic space in downtown Boise with a mix of seating options or a drive-thru option on Overland Road. This spot is so popular that they’ve got their own merch and almost 15,000 followers on Instagram!
“Salt & Light is Eagle's only coffee lounge by day and wine bar by night. From 7am, we're your morning ritual — organic locally roasted coffee, ceremonial grade matcha, house-made syrups crafted with organic cane sugar, and so much more.”
